About Us

Since 1979, three generations of Barbers have enjoyed Nantucket as their home. Mark and Holly settled into construction early as a means to provide for their family and formed Barber and Sons, Inc in 1984. Since then, the two have built homes for a wide variety of owners, architects and designers. Their children, Beau and Nate, joined the business in earnest after attending Boston University and studying English period furniture at The Masterpiece School of Fine Furniture in Ft Bragg, California. Along side the parent company, Beau and Nate formed Barber Brothers, a company focused on woodwork. As we have grown, we have come to appreciate the simple beauty that endures in old Nantucket houses. We are students of our predecessors’ techniques and use of proportion. We consider our brand to be a reflection of our passion for historic Nantucket.

Over the past few years Barber and Sons have competed major interior and exterior projects on our year-round Nantucket home. We have found them to be skilled, talented and responsible. Their estimates were on target and when issues needing to be addressed were uncovered, options were always thoughtfully presented. Their attention to detail has been outstanding. We have consistently been very pleased with the results. For us, working on our home with professional we can trust, who care and take pride in the work they are doing and who are most accommodating as we live in our home during construction are key issues. That is why we are currently scheduling our next renovation project as I write this review.

We recently hired Barber and Sons to build an art studio. Beau and Nate Barber worked with us to design and site a structure that expressed our ideas, fell within our budget, met building codes, was aesthetically pleasing. They proved to be excellent communicators throughout the building process, as they are intent on making sure that we understood the process, they understood exactly what we wanted, and we were happy with how things were proceeding. From day one, the efficient Barbers and their hardworking crew made impressive progress every workday. Each member of their tightly-knit team is capable, reliable and nice to have around. At every stage of construction, it was clear that this was going to be the most solid and well-built structure on our property! We are thrilled with the exceptional workmanship and high quality of the finished studio, in which the Barbers knowledgeable talent and thoughtful care shines through.
