MEET THE TEAM

Mark Barber, General Contractor

Mark and Holly Barber started a life on Nantucket in 1979 and began working in the trades and bookkeeping for various island businesses.  In 1984, the two formed Barber and Sons, Inc., a general contracting business when a friend suggested they build his house.  Since then, Mark and Holly have been building houses, raising a family and forging lasting relationships with friends, associates and customers.  Some of their first customers are still requesting the company's services for remodels or upkeep, a testament to their practice of retaining customer loyalty.

Beau Barber

After graduating from Boston University with a degree in International Relations, Beau returned home to work in the family business and discovered a true appreciation of woodwork.  He completed a year at The Masterpiece School of Furniture in Ft Bragg, California and started Barber Brothers upon return with his brother, Nate.  The focus of Barber Brothers is furniture, cabinets and small woodwork projects for customers around Nantucket.  Beau also works for Barber and Sons designing interiors and implementing interior woodwork.  His aesthetic was developed from his years designing and building furniture and the deep appreciation he has for historical Nantucket architecture.

Nate Barber

Nate was the first of his family to be born on Nantucket after his father moved to the Island as a boat builder in 1979.  After his father formed Barber and Sons in 1984 he started spending time with his parents on their job sites.  Nate started basic construction at an early age and with his brother often used their father's tools and spare materials to construct forts, boats, and go carts to keep them entertained.  Nate went on to graduate from the Boston University School of Management in 2003.  He then returned to Nantucket to join the family business building houses.  Nate has a wide range of skills after working in all phases of residential construction on many Nantucket homes.

Ken Wagner

Ken hails from New Jersey and came to the island in the early 90s with a published version of Kenneth Duprey's "Old Houses of Nantucket" and a dream to build Maria Mitchell's island home for himself, the plans of which were printed in the back of the book.  Ken has been a carpenter since 1972 and has a wealth of knowledge for technique and construction.  His understanding of hand tools and his meticulous nature makes him a perfect fit for cabinet, millwork and interior trim.  He brings productivity and practicality to the shop and it has been a teaching experience working with him.

John Marcos Dippiton

John Marcos has been with the company since 2015 and has proven to be an invaluable asset.  He immigrated to America in 2010 from the Dominican Republic and has worked in the trades on Nantucket since.  He has deep Nantucket roots on the island after being the third generation in his family to find their way to the island.  John takes great pride in his work as a carpenter and holds his work to high standards.  He is a self motivated individual who brings positive energy and great work ethic to the job site.  In his time with Barber and Sons he has worked on a wide range of projects and had especially proven himself remarkably as a very proficient finish carpenter.  John Marcos is also an accomplished Merengue musician who always amazes us with his skills with an accordion.

Jean Carlos Acosta

Jean Carlos began working for Barber and Sons in 2015 and has been a mainstay ever since.  Jean Carlos met Nate Barber who was his high school baseball coach at Nantucket High School in 2009.  Jean Carlos was a standout pitcher who was liked and respected by everyone who had the chance to meet him.  After Jean Carlos finished school he began a career in construction with the Barbers.  Jean Carlos has been taught everything from framing to furniture making.  He applies his craft with passion and persistence.  Jean Carlos has also shown that he is more than capable of all the physically demanding aspects of Nantucket construction.  Jean is a pleasure to have on any job site and only makes the ones around him feel happier and content.
